Taxis in Seoul are affordable and therefore are a comfortable and convenient way to travel around the city. There are three types of taxis in Seoul: the white, silver and black taxis. White and silver taxis are ilban, or regular, taxis and are identified by their white and blue caps. White caps indicate privately owned taxis while blue caps are company owned cars. Black taxis are mobeom or luxury taxis.
Ilban Taxis(Regular Taxis)
While you can differentiate between a privately- and company owned taxi by their caps, you can also easily spot company owned cabs by the company name and numbers on their side doors.
The basic fare for these taxis is 2,400won for the first 2km with an increase of 100won per 144m.
Keep in mind that there is a 20% fare hike from midnight to 4 a.m.
Mobeom Taxis(Luxury Taxis)
These taxis are black with yellow caps. Although considerably more comfortable, these luxury cabs also cost more. The basic fare is 4,500won for the first 3 km with an increase of 200won per 164m.
